RedFork Main Street (RFMS) is a not for profit organization created to help breathe new life into Southwest Tulsa. RFMS became an official Main Street Program through Oklahoma’s Department of Commerce in March 2007. The program’s purpose is to prevent and reverse community deterioration in Southwest Tulsa by educating people on the value of protecting and enhancing Southwest Tulsa’s rich historic and culturally significant area.
Built on the National Main Street’s Four-Point Approach, the program has four different committees that each focus on a particular aspect of Southwest Tulsa. The Organization Committee focuses on bringing people together through volunteer recruitment and secures funding for the program. The Promotion Committee advertises and promotes the business district and helps to build on the positive character of Southwest Tulsa. The Design Committee is dedicated to enhancing all of the visual aspects of Southwest Tulsa. The Economic Restructuring Committee works to diversify and revitalize the business district.
In the second half of 2007, the RedFork Main Street program reported over $1,000,000 in public and private reinvestment dollars spent in the project area and over 700 hours of volunteer commitment spent helping to reach the program’s goals.
